A few weeks ago I got a letter from the RNC. Last week Aubrey got a nearly identical letter. As I read the letters I could not keep myself from laughing. I have long considered myself conservative but don’t affiliate myself with any particular political party. To my surprise the letter ended with a survey. I’ve decided to share a few of the gems from the letter.
It starts out with:
…for the first time since 1993, Democrats have absolute power in Washington, DC. Worse still this unchecked power is centralized in the hands of three people:
- President Barack Obama, the most far left president in American history
- Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, even farther left then President Obama
- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, one of the most ruthless and partisan liberals in Congress
The RNC is claiming that the democrats have Absolute power. Clearly they are counting on people not understanding the way that the checks and balances work. First there are more then 3 people in Washington DC with political power and its not uncommon for a politician to cross party lines on a vote. Second the supreme court is not controlled by the Democrats, and in fact, the newest Justice Sonia Sotomayor (who was appointed by the “most left president in… history” has been called by many analysists one of the more conservative justices on the bench. So until the Democrats control the judical branch of the federal goverment their power is anything but absolute.
Later on they say:
And thats not the worst of it… (emphasis theirs)
… Barack Obama sits atop a fundrasing machine never before seen in American electoral politics. It has been estimated that he could have an astounding ONE BILLION DOLLARS at his disposal to influence the 2010 election and elect more liberals to the House and the Senate
I’m scared! Not only do those Democrats have absolute power now they have One Billion Dollars (cue Dr. Evil laughter). In all seriousness I’d be surprised if the total fund raising ability of the Republicans was not just as large.
My biggest gripe with the survey is this. At the end of the survey there is a question that says:
Will you join the Republican Nation Committee by making a contribution today?
Ahh… so I’m not actually a member of the Party (or at least the committee). The purpose of this letter is revealed, its just a scarely letter meant to trick me into joining the Republican Party. Seriously how low can they go. I wonder how many people will respond to this letter only to find themselves registered for a party without their knowledge.
There are really so many parts of this letter that I take issue with that I don’t have the time to point them all out, so instead I just scanned the letter and the accompanying survey.
If the RNC was really interested in my political views then they would call me. Call centers are a quick and efficient way to poll public opinion. I’m totally convinced that the point of this letter was to sway public opinion rather than to measure it. Gotta love that tricky GOP.
I apologize for the tear down the center of the documents. It got ripped up before I decided to scan it. Also don’t worry I’m not opposed any particular political party more than another, I just disagree with dishonest actions taken by the political parties.
Like always comments are greatly appreciated.

/ August 8, 2009Is it just me, or is it true that everything in the Republican committee’s platform seems to be about spending taxpayers’ mullah? I would say, my favorite part about the letter is the bottom of each page that specifies that this was not printed at taxpayers’ expense. Ah! So that is why they need contributions? so they can print more letters like this? he he
love you bro

/ August 8, 2009Hey, how come I didn’t get one?
Politics… I was once so starry-eyed naive that I thought I would enjoy being a politician one day. It makes me chuckle almost as much as this priceless GOP antic.
On a completely different topic, I think you should write a post about Primer…
