This picture is so cool for so many reasons. Think about it, we built a little robot that we shot over 56 million kilometers away that successfully landed on Mars. To put this into perspective, imagine you are playing darts and mars is the dart board. If you were to place Mars 10 meters away from you (30 feet), Mars would be roughly 1 mm in diameter (1/32 of an inch), and it would be moving. Try hitting that target!
Just think about what we have accomplished. Despite our squabblings and petty conflicts we have successfully navigated the dead of space and left our mark on another planet. No matter what happens to humans on this planet evidence of our intelligence and ability to travel to other planets will live forever on Mars.
